Since the Healthy Homes Standards took full effect, that moisture has a clear regulatory context — and inspectors need a consistent way to record it.
The Healthy Homes Standards
Since 1 July 2025, all private rentals in New Zealand must comply with the Healthy Homes Standards. The standards cover five areas: heating, insulation, ventilation, moisture ingress and drainage, and draught stopping. Two of these — ventilation and moisture ingress and drainage — sit directly in the damp and mould domain, and are exactly what DampApp Pro is built to document.

Part of a worldwide shift
New Zealand's Healthy Homes Standards are part of a wider international move toward enforceable rental housing-condition standards. The UK's Renters' Rights Act 2025 extends Awaab's Law and a Decent Homes Standard to private rentals from 1 May 2026, and other markets operate their own habitability and minimum-standards regimes. The common thread is dated, evidence-based condition reporting.
